Somewhere in the middle: Not Christian, Not Atheist
by darkuncle29 inso, what about those of us in the middle?
who identify as neither xian or atheist?
can either side accept/tolerate the middle?
-
drew sagan
Who else may be considered middle? Pagans, Wicans, Buddhists, Taoists, shamans, ect.
I suppose it depends upon how you define "in the middle". What exactly are they in the middle of?
From (the very little) you described of yourself I think agnostic seems to fit. -

HOW JWS TREAT THE MINOR CHILDREN OF DISFELLOWSHIPPED MEMBERS
by steve2 inas part of another post, i asked the following question (but got no reply):.
has any watchtower publication ever discussed - or alluded to - how witnesses are to "view" the minor children of persons who have been disfellowshipped?.
on this board, and from direct experience, i have seen a wide range of treatment dished out to the innocent offspring of disfellowshipped persons.

The quotes blondie provided show how the Watchtower leadership will write material that can give positive suggestions. But how deep do a few paragraphs go in regards to an issue of such weight.
Do JWs run off to the bound volumes to look up how a kid in that situation should be treated? Some might, but the majority would base their treament of the child on the social implications that run through the group (i.e. DF'ing is bad therefore the child gets some of this negative energy). -

Barbara Anderson is on NBC Nightly News Tonight 11/21/07
by AndersonsInfo ina producer with nbc in new york called within the past hour to tell me that the segment i interviewed for (once in nashville, tn in august and once in washington, dc in october) is set to air tonight on nbc nightly news with brian williams, that is, if no huge calamity takes place to bump the feature.
this piece will be two minutes and 45 seconds long, the longest slot nightly news has for topics of interest, and will feature a discussion about the court documents that are found on the cd i recently produced, "secrets of pedophilia in an american religion, jehovah's witnesses in crisis.
in addition, nbc's internet site, msn, will follow with a detailed story.

What Congregational "Rules" Did You Have To Follow?
by minimus inone rule our hall had was that families with young children should only sit in the rear of the hall.
if a baby got fussy, the attendant was to go to the mother and ask her to bring the child in the library or "backroom".. also, disfellowshipped persons were to sit in the back of the hall and if they talked to another df'd one in front of the congregation members, they were threatened with not being allowed to get reinstated and having a lack of humility.. did your elders make up certain rules in your hall?.

There was a situation where we lived where a JW based health insurance company ripped off many people. They took peoples money but would not pay out on the claims received.
I knew one Elder who called up the company and asked the person working there if she was JW. When she said yes he asked her "how could you be ripping your brothers and sisters off like this". He didn't get much of a reply.
Many people ended up having to cover the costs of their medical bills personally, not to mention the loss of actually buying the bogus insurance. -

Help please (Leolaia, Narkissos?).
by Awakened07 innot sure if these are stupid questions or not, but i just thought of it all last night, and would like to have it answered:.
so - the jews around the time jesus came around were apparently expecting a messiah to show up, because of the prophecies in the ot.
so they were waiting for the messiah to 'arrive' at the time.

Good points Leolaia, understanding the diversity in beliefs at the time is key.
I remember one particular moment about two years ago when I began do study on the Jewish nation outside of Watchtower literature. At the time I was totally blown away when learning about the Jewish diaspora, especially after the Babylonian conquest. As a JW you are led to believe that the Jews where very 'unified' in their 'organization' (the modern org being a reflection of the ancient one).
Seeing history outside of Watchtower assumptions was really eye opening. -
